[in Andong] Fresh water fish cuisine that a master made

Andong is one of the most traditional city in Korea. It is famous for Korean Folk Village, where noble people  lives on, maybe 500 years ago. It is 3hours from Seoul and very different with Seoul. A little bit rural and I think you can see what the real traditional Korean house and village are.

Fresh water fish cuisine that a master made



As came the city of tradition, I also have elegant cuisine that a master made. 


And it was rainy day, good to have fresh water fish in my opinion. I remember every time I went small river to swim and fresh water fishing, it rains. It's the best day to eat fresh water fish because whenever I eat fresh water by fishing in rainy day like this day.

It's originated 50 years ago from now

It comes down to 3 generations. Mother of 김정순[master Kim Jeong-soon] and 김정순 and now on to her son.






Steamed Amur catfish [메기, Mae-Gi] cuisine with Gochujang sauce



Looks chilly!! of course chilly!!



This cuisine name is 메기찜, sound like Mae-gi-jjim.


Korean Amur catfish[메기, Mae-gi] is giant. The size of fish is about 30cm (1feet), similar with my arm length. wow.

This is not common cuisine also in Korea, special and noble.

It also good for stamina and health, especially popular to senior. So the price is little bit high and it is classified fine dining.


It is for 2 persons by the menu. Though, If you are not gourmand or you are 3 women, I think 메기찜[Mae-gi-jjim] for 2 persons is enough.

고추장 [Go-chu-jang] sauce is very spicy.


The traditional Korean sauce, 고추장[Go-chu-jang] is sprinkled on the steamed fish. 고추장[Go-chu-jang] is made from red pepper and fermented for years. So good for health, if not too much. It looks red, spicy and really spicy.

If you are not Korean, you can have hard time to.... yes.

If you want to challenge Korean fine and neat and SPICY food, it can be great experience once in your life.


It can be a little bit rude to master's food, In fact, I feel the sauce is something similar with sauce of 떡꼬치[ddok-kko-chi], on snack bar. I like both sauce and I know the ingredients of both will be really really different.

It is rich in flavor and not that greasy. 

It's good to eat with bean sprout[콩나물 Kong na mool].

김정숙명인의[Kim Jeong-sook Myeong-in oei Gip] means the restaurant of master Kim Jeong-sook.

She have appeared on TV show, 한식대첩 [the war of Korean food] and runner-up. The broadcast scene she has cooked always shows on the screen. 





It reserves private rooms.

I'm worried about how to introduce the menu, because it's only Korean language. I will figure out the way to express it in English.

What I have was 잉어찜/메기찜 for 2 person, priced 40,000원($35 USD roughly). And the rice in stone-pot separately, 2000원 ($1.5 each).

It's 55,000원($50 USD) for 3 persons, and 70,000원($61 USD) for 4 persons.

Andong is good place for feeling traditions of Korea. You can enjoy Haheo Village, what I mentioned on top, and Korean traditional mask, 탈[Tal].

This cuisine is half and half. The food and atmosphere are 6.5/10. 

If you like fish and want to challenge spicy of Korean food, I really recommend it. It can be the good choice for you. enjoy Andong and 메기찜[Mae-gi-jjim].
